Leading The Way

History of St George's
St George’s Nursing Home in Royston was acquired in 1984 by Robert and Elizabeth Newton. In 2005 they converted this partnership into a Limited Company, BCH (South East) Ltd.

In 1991, Newton Chinneck Ltd was formed as a separate company to acquire and operate the Witham Nursing Home. This home was extended and refurbished during 2007-08. In 2008, following restructuring of the Company, Glatton Hall Residential Home was also acquired. In 2009, BCH (South East) Ltd was hived up into it's sister company, Newton Chinneck Ltd to provide a single operating company.

With our experience born from over 20 years of serving the community, we aspire to create a warm, family atmosphere in all of our Homes, which is often lost in the larger institutions. From the outset St George's have strived to provide care of the highest standard and this ethic is encapsulated within our Philosophy of Care.

Philosophy of Care
At St. George's the rights of our service users are central to our Philosophy of Care. We aim to provide them with a secure, relaxed and comfortable home, in which their nursing and care needs, well-being and choice are of prime importance.

We aim to achieve this by putting our service users at the centre of all decisions about their lives and encouraging them to exercise their rights in all aspects of their care. We strive to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality and privacy of all service users, within a warm and caring atmosphere which is comfortable and safe, and in doing so we will be sensitive to the service users' ever changing needs. Such needs may be nursing, medical, physical, cultural, psychological, spiritual, emotional or social. We welcome and encourage service users to participate in the development of their individual care plans, and if they wish, their relatives and friends can also be involved in this process.

A self fulfilling social life is as important as good medical attention, and therefore we encourage social interaction with other service users. Families, friends and children are encouraged to visit regularly and are welcomed at any time. We also have a programme of recreational activities that encourages mental alertness, mobility and self esteem.

Recognition of the following Core Values of Care as laid out in our 'Service User Charter' is fundamental to the philosophy at St. George’s:-

Core Values of CarePrivacy, Dignity, Rights, Independence, Choice, Fulfilment, Security, Respect and Equality.

All Registered Nurses and staff at St. George's are appropriately trained to deliver the highest standards of care and a continuous staff training programme ensures that high standards are maintained within the latest initiatives laid down in best practice guidelines and the National Care Standards.

This is our service users home, we hope that they and their families will treat it as such.
